ALCOHOL DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT
...... If you follow my rules!
Sure, alcohol has calories. However, the body sees alcohol as a toxin so it will never ever store alcohol as fat. The body will metabolize alcohol before the food you eat to get rid of it from the body.
So any excess fatty foods that you eat when drinking alcohol will not get metabolised until the body first rids itself of the alcohol. This means that alcohol slows down the fat burning process, but ultimately it is the excess fatty food that you eat when drinking alcohol that makes you fat.
Also, alcohol reduces our inhibitions and increases our poor decision making capabilities, i.e. curry cheese chips at 2am. Same goes for hangovers, i.e. big dirty full Irish breakfast the next day. However, life happens, and we must be realistic about alcohol.
Here are my rules for days that feature alcohol, when following a fat loss program:
Eat very little fat; reduce oils, butter, nuts, fatty meat, chips, etc.
Eat lots of lean protein
Eat lots of green vegetables
Eat moderate amount of carbs
Choose spirits such as vodka, gin, or dry red/white wines
Mix spirits with soda water or slimline tonic with lemon or lime
Do not mix spirits with fruit juices or sugary drinks
Drink plenty of water throughout the night
The next morning, drink a litre of water first thing and take a multivitamin/Berocca/Dioralyte
Go for a long walk
A final note from me; you need to take responsibility for your actions. You need to reduce alcohol to achieve with your fat loss goals, so make the decision wisely to drink alcohol, but be warned alcohol can stall your progress.
Keep it balanced,
